The Knicks desperately need point guard help, and they may turn to Jay Williams. Speedy Claxton is another candidate, if he doesn't re-up with the Hornets.

Jazz 104, Hornets 80


Now that the two-game losing streak is over, the Utah Jazz need to put together a winning streak if they are going to make a run at the playoffs.

The Jazz passed New Orleans for ninth place in the Western Conference standings and moved within two games of the final playoff spot by beating the weary and slumping Hornets 104-80 Monday night.

"We can be good. But consistency has been our problem all year - putting a stretch of games together.

Deron Williams had 20 points and five assists, and the Utah Jazz ended a two-game losing streak by beating the New Orleans Hornets 104-80 Monday night.

All five Utah starters scored in double figures and the Jazz pulled away with a 14-0 run in the third quarter while improving to 33-37 - passing the slumping Hornets (32-37) in the Western Conference standings.

Both teams still trailed Sacramento (35-35) for the No. 8 seed in the playoffs.

Hornets 86, Warriors 85



Everybody on the court could tell Mike Dunleavy released his final shot an instant too late - everybody except Dunleavy, who popped his jersey and romped around the arena celebrating a basket that didn't count.

His Golden State Warriors were an instant too late to avoid an embarrassing loss to the flailing New Orleans Hornets, who seemed just as surprised as Dunleavy to learn they were heading home as winners.

Arbitrator upholds NBA's dismissal of Andersen (AP)



Former New Orleans Hornets forward Chris Andersen's dismissal from the NBA for violating the league's drug policy was upheld by an arbitrator Monday. Andersen was dismissed and disqualified from the league in late January. He is not eligible to apply for reinstatement for two years. Andersen and the players' union had filed a grievance, but arbitrator Calvin Sharpe rejected it.

Hornets send Bass to NBDL (AP)



The New Orleans Hornets on Friday assigned rookie forward Brandon Bass to the Tulsa 66ers of the NBDL. Bass, the Hornets' second-round pick out of LSU, has played in only three games since the start of February and hasn't played more than 6 minutes in a game since Nov. 28. He is averaging 1.6 points and 1.7 rebounds in 19 games this season.
